How to check your WordPress version

Check which version of WordPress you’re running in 3 easy steps:

  1. Log into your site
  2. Check that you are on your WP dashboard’s home page [this is usually the first page you see after logging in].
A quick check of the URL will confirm if you’re on the right page, it should look like: https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin]
  3. Scroll down to see which version you are running in the lower right corner.

Don’t see your WP version?

Don’t worry, there’s another place to look– in your FTP File Manager.

To access your WordPress files [without logging into your hosting cPanel] we recommend using a File Manager. There are a lot a great ones to choose from, but we like to use WP File Manager.

Go to your file manager and click on the folder wp-includes.
Scroll to the file named version.php.

Right-click and open the code editor. Look for the line starting with $wp_version– it will tell you which wordpress version you are using.

To keep your site running fast & secure, we recommend keeping it updated with the latest WordPress, PHP, and plugin versions.

Before updating your site, always have a backup! If you happen to need it, restoring from a backup will save your site and all its data.
